Okay, so I’m going to make you think today, as usual. Have you thought of your legacy lately?
Kind of a heavy thought right. It’s okay. You should be used to them by now with me. 😉
But seriously, have you really taken the time to think about how you want to impact the world?
Lately I’ve been thinking pretty deeply about the legacy that I want to leave. Sometimes to the point that I can’t sleep. A few weeks ago the topic was brought up at a church service I attended and it hasn’t left my mind since.
The past couple of years in my life have been totally transformative in the sense that everything I had planned for my life has gone completely upside down, sideways, and every other possible direction. It’s caused me to rethink things. It has also made me think about how I need to leave some cushion in life for the unexpected.
I’ve been tempted time and time again to just go with the flow because it’s easier that way. However, it’s completely unfulfilling.
So why think about your legacy? Here are a few reasons why:
1. You are the only person with your specific personality, qualities, talents, and experiences in the world.
2. Life is much richer when you are living out your purpose- regardless of your circumstance.
3. Being the best YOU that you can be is the greatest gift that you can give yourself and your loved ones.
I’ve hit many rough spots in my life- and I know I will again and again. But the only thing that I know from the bottom of my heart is that I can never give up. As long as I don’t, there will always be hope. There will always be something around me to be grateful for- and something challenging me to take my eyes off of my blessings.
Ironically, as I was writing this, I came across the story of a woman named Jill Brzezinski-Conley. She is only 35 years old and she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer the day before she turned 32. She underwent a double mastectomy and now, only a couple of years later, she has incurable stage 4 breast cancer that metastasized and gone to her bones. The incredible part of her story is that she has not given up on life. She believes that God is using her to tell her story and empower women to feel beautiful regardless of the outcomes of breast cancer. Watch her story here.
After hearing a story like that, what possible excuse can you give for giving up on a chance to impact others by being the best woman that you can be?
The question to ask yourself now is ARE YOU DONE? Are you done living, learning, and teaching? Why stop now? Why not make a legacy? You were built to withstand the unimaginable- mentally and physically. There’s no reason to give up because there will ALWAYS be hope for you. Believe and have faith.
